Preparing the car for spring

It is believed that the peak of corrosion of the car falls on the winter. However, contrary to the prevailing opinion, the car rusts most in the spring.

In winter, the car is subjected to a massive attack of external destructive factors:

  • Slush mixed with salt and sand
  • Frozen snow under the car's bottom

All the scratches, which in the winter were clogged with salt, sand and mud, with the onset of spring will be the same factors that activate the corrosion process.

With the advent of spring, the car, first of all, must be thoroughly washed and well dried. Damage to the paintwork must be processed and subsequently repaired.

Accumulator

During the winter period of operation, the car's accumulator has a heavy load, which arises from the heavy start of the engine and intensive operation of the headlights and the heating system.

Preparing the car for the spring, it is necessary to check the battery charge.

If necessary, it should be recharged to maximum using a special device. Accumulators  of the old design often require refilling of distilled liquids, and sometimes checking the electrolyte level.

It should be noted that in summer the engine can be started from a battery, which is charged only by a quarter. But in this case accumulator life time is significantly reduced.

Engine

With the advent of spring, you need to carefully inspect the engine of the machine. Large and adrupt temperature changes during the winter period of operation often lead to the fact that the elastic elements of the motor wearing out significantly. In particular, engine parts that are made of rubber and plastic, lose their properties: plastic elements burst, and rubber parts crack. As a result, there is a loss of tightness, which is fraught with leakage of antifreeze, oil and other technical liquids.

If a visual inspection of the engine found smudges, you should immediately eliminate their cause in one way or another - by yourself or by contacting a car service center. Otherwise, the motor may fail finally. The subsequent repair can fly into a pretty penny.

Liquids

Regular check of the level of all technical liquids should be carried out once a month, regardless of the season and operating conditions. If there is a lack of any liquid, it should be filled immediately. It is desirable that the liquid that will be poured, of the same brand and color, had the same characteristics as the liquid that was previously filled.

With oil, the situation is rather ambiguous. Today in the range of specialized stores there are synthetic and semi-synthetic oils that do not lose their characteristics and properties in severe cold, in extreme heat and in sudden temperature changes.

Experienced motorists advise to change the oil depending on the season, and not depending on the mileage.

Fuel

In the cold season, fuel of domestic production becomes even more polluted than in summer. That's why every motorist who thinks about how to prepare a car for the spring should thoroughly flush  both the thoroughly fuel tank and the fuel wire. Of course, this service is not only quite expensive, but also takes a lot of time. If there is no time and extra money, it is desirable to limit yourself to at least replacing the fuel filter.

Suspention

Among other things, preparing the car for the spring, you should check the serviceability of the hinges of the suspension, steering rods and, of course, silent blocks. Malfunctions identified during the audit should be immediately eliminated. If repair of certain elements is impossible, you need to replace them.

Particular attention should be paid to the anthers at the suspension points, which, in the long run, tend to burst. If the damaged anthers are not replaced in time, the suspension assemblies lose lubrication, which can disrupt their performance. Do not forget about checking the brake hoses, the safe operation of which depends on traffic safety.

A timely diagnosis will help to save your finances and extend the life of the car
