Frankfurt and Stuttgart, Germany - Bosch is working to create technological solutions for the future of the road: without accidents, stress and harmful emissions. The largest supplier of automotive technologies and services represents innovations for the automotive movement of tomorrow at the 67th International Motor Show in Frankfurt.

The main thing in the exposition in Frankfurt

Assistant to automatic parking: parking in the automatic mode saves time and reduces the psychological burden of drivers. In the garage of the Mercedes-Benz Museum in Stuttgart, Bosch together with Daimler show that the automatic parking system is already a reality. Now with the help of a smartphone, drivers can automatically put cars on their parking spaces and do not follow their maneuvers. The function became possible thanks to the joint use of automotive technologies and intellectual infrastructure created by Bosch. Automatic parking is an important milestone on the road to autonomous driving.

Wireless software update: updating software and applications over the Internet is absolutely natural for smartphone users. Now Bosch does the same for cars. The car's software can be updated, and new functions added to the car - at night in the parking lot, in an encrypted and protected from unauthorized access form. Wireless updates allow drivers to try and then activate functions such as automatic parking, parking in public parking or a traffic control system along the lane.

Electric drive e-axle: the new electric drive system is a compact, cost-effective solution for the creation of electric vehicles and hybrids. The electric motor, power electronics and transmission are integrated into a single compact unit that is mounted directly on the vehicle axle and provides wheel drive. The device makes it possible to simplify the design of an electrical power plant. Also designed by Bosch construction can shorten the time to develop new electric vehicles. The company represents the device in a different configuration. Its output power can be from 50 to 300 kW. This means that the e-axle drive can be used in compact cars, off-road vehicles and even light commercial vehicles.

Development of the company's offer in the field of systems and components for accident-free driving

Automated driving: the transition to automated driving contributes to the improvement of road safety. The expansion of the use of automated driving systems can reduce the level of accidents - by one third only in Germany. The introduction of new technologies requires a deep understanding of other car systems. Bosch has the necessary level of knowledge in all areas and produces numerous components for driving automation - including radars, cameras and ultrasonic sensors, braking control systems, electric steering systems, displays, network technologies for connecting the car with an external infrastructure. At the moment, it is likely that at the beginning of the next decade for cars with integrated technologies from Bosch will be granted permission to traffic in automatic mode along the highway. In addition, Bosch is working with Daimler in the field of fully automated driving and driving in cities without a driver. The purpose of the cooperation is the development and launching of production of passenger vehicles with autonomous control, the first of which should appear on the roads in the early 2020s.

Brake system: Bosch has developed the second generation of a vacuum-independent electromechanical brake booster. The second generation brake booster is designed even more compact, but can provide higher pressure in the system. IBooster is suitable for all types of powertrains - in particular, for hybrid cars and electric vehicles. In combination with an electronic stabilization system ESP, the electromechanical brake booster forms an additional redundant brake system drive, which is necessary for the transition to autonomous driving. Even if one of the two components of the system fails, the other can safely slow down and stop the car without driver intervention.

Electric Steering: A reliable and fault-tolerant power steering system is one of the key technologies for integrating automatic driving systems.  Even in the event of a malfunction, the Bosch system is capable of providing 50% of the steering functionality in both normal and stand-alone modes.

Cloud service of the traffic control: grip and friction depends on a number of conditions - the presence or absence of water, icing. When changing climatic conditions, the driver must change the driving style to avoid a critical situation.Bosch is developing a cloud-based service for controlling the traffic situation, which will allow autonomous cars to track changes in the condition of the road surface on the route. The service uses sensors of the vehicle's electronic  program of stabilization  ESP to collect information about the characteristics of the road surface.

Smart and autonomous parking due to opportunities of networking technologies

Finding a parking space: Finding a parking space from Bosch reduces the time it takes to find free space for a car. Using ultrasound sensors of the built-in parking assistance assistant, cars on the move identify and measure the gaps between parked cars. This information is transmitted in real time to the cloud service that builds a digital parking map that drivers can use to find the nearest available places.

Game application: Parkineers - an application that simplifies the search for free space. Users of this application exchange information about parking restrictions, for example, whether there are seats only for residents or temporary bans.Users of the application are part of the community: they can make their avatars visible to everyone, show where there are free parking spaces and transmit data about available seats in the area of the user's location.

Assistant for automatic parking in the garage or on a fixed place in the underground parking: the Home Zone assistant is able to memorize and repeat the parking algorithm on the fixed place, including the entrance to the parking lot (up to 100 meters). It is enough for a driver to train a car once and for all to repeat maneuvers, and then save the algorithm. Home Zone focuses on ultrasonic sensors, stereo cameras and radar sensors that recognize objects stored on the route during a training trip, and safely guide the car to its parking lot.

Additional protection for car and biker passengers

Protection of people in the car: the safety of the car and the protection of people in it can be further improved by combining active and passive safety systems, as well as the braking system and steering. If the sensors of the collision avoidance system detect a hazardous object, passive safety systems (such as airbags and seat belt pretensioners) can be activated in advance for faster operation.

Protecting cyclists: pedestrians and cyclists are the most vulnerable road users. In the interests of reducing the number of accidents involving cyclists, the sensors-radars or cameras of the new automated emergency braking system Bosch are equipped with the function of recognizing cyclists, even if they suddenly face the car. If the system detects an imminent collision, it automatically starts an emergency braking. Ideally, this should mitigate the consequences of the collision or even completely prevent it. Starting in 2018, the criteria for assessing the safety of Euro NCAP vehicles will include the availability of an automatic emergency braking system that recognizes cyclists.

Anti-lock system for bicycles with an electric motor: Bosch launches the world's first anti-lock braking system for bicycles e-bike and, thus, transfers car technologies to the bicycle design.

New services for comfortable and stress-free riding

A car demonstrating the possibilities of network technologies: a new demo-car from Bosch represents network services that will soon influence the level of psychological stress of drivers and make driving more comfortable.

The concept includes parking system in public places, car preventive diagnosis system and Perfectly Keyless application. At the heart of all these systems is the cloud-based Bosch Automotive Cloud Suite. Service coordinates the interaction of on-board systems using the capabilities of cloud technologies.

Keyless entry system Perfectly Keyless: The Perfectly Keyless application turns a smartphone into a car key. With its help, drivers can open the car, start the engine and turn on the burglar alarm without worrying about finding the keys. The Perfectly Keyless application automatically identifies a unique digital security key in the user's smartphone. Only when the system detects the user at a distance of less than two meters, it unlocks the door lock. In addition, the car does not start until the access system finds a smartphone inside the car. Owners of cars can use the application to provide access to other drivers.

Preventive diagnostics of the car: there is nothing more annoying than a car breakdown during a vacation trip. The preventive diagnosis system uses the vehicle data to analyze the status of key components. If the information indicates that the components are worn out, the driver is notified in advance of a possible malfunction and receives recommendations for a visit to the repair shop. Preventive diagnostics help prevent unexpected breakdowns.

The integration of the smartphone mySPIN: the system is designed for those who want to use a navigator installed in a smartphone, transfer of multimedia information or a calendar while driving a car or riding a motorbike. The integration solution from Bosch mySPIN for smartphones makes all of the above possible.

Driving application: a new application for smartphones from Bosch makes it possible to access entertaining and useful information for drivers of cars not equipped with a built-in advanced multimedia system. The application combines all the functions of the car infotainment system, including processing of telephone calls, text messages, navigation and other technologies. With built-in voice control, the use of the application is safe and convenient.

Integration of eCall: starting from 2018, the automatic emergency call system eCall will become the standard equipment for all new cars. Bosch has developed an additional solution for the emergency call system for cars in which this function was not provided. . The touch device from Bosch is connected to a car outlet and uses acceleration sensors and intelligent algorithms to determine the emergency situation.

The ability to monitor important information with new displays and display systems

Show-car network technologies: Bosch uses a demo to show how new user interfaces increase security, reduce stress and reduce the number of distractions when driving. The new interface provides the driver with the necessary information as needed and serves as an assistant capable of taking on the alert function in any situation.

Anti-glare instrument panel: Bosch launches the world's first digital instrument panel with full-HD resolution and anti-glare protection. Its screen reflects four times less light, which ensures readability of the indications under any conditions - even in direct sunlight and in total darkness. The secret lies in the new production technologies, implying the gluing of the screen with the protective glass through a layer of special liquid. Thanks to the high-contrast screen, all displayed information is perfectly readable. Due to its strength and increased resistance to dust and dirt, the new instrument panel can also be successfully used on motorcycles.

Head multimedia devices with new technologies: drivers can use head units to manage all the information and entertainment system of the car.

Effective driver's seat: in the driver's seat of a modern car there are many screens, displays, switches and buttons. Each screen is usually controlled by its own control unit. In a compact car where space is limited, or in interior concepts with one large center screen, it is important to provide maximum functionality and reduce the number of control components. To achieve this, Bosch has combined the functions of the instrument panel and display of the infotainment system. The combined device monitors the single control unit (ALU).

Economical and environmental technologies of power plant

48-volt drive system for lightweight electric vehicles: specifically for city traffic, Bosch has developed an integrated 48-volt electric drive system that includes an electric motor, control unit, battery, charger, display and application. Thus, Bosch improves the efficiency of urban mobility. The system is available for various types of vehicles - from two-wheel to compact four-wheel models.

48-volt battery: In addition to the energy recovery device and DC converter, the battery is one of the main components of the 48-volt electrical system.  The battery retains the energy recovered as a result of braking and directs it to power the electric motor and the electric vehicle.  Low battery height (only 90 millimeters) means there are many options for accommodation - for example, it can be located under the seat or spare wheel. Passive cooling provides compactness, helps optimize costs and, as an additional convenience factor, makes the battery almost silent.

In the case of a gasoline engine, the main advantage of injecting into the intake manifold is a low level of energy losses at partial loads, while direct fuel injection provides higher performance at maximum efficiency. Combined injection system from Bosch has the advantages of both systems. In practice, this means an increase in the efficiency of combustion of fuel and better atomization - both with the engine running in partial or full load.

Needle management in diesel engine injectors: needle-closing control (NCC) allows precise measurement and control of fuel injection time in real driving conditions - accurate to several millionths of a second. For this purpose, a sensor is integrated in the electromagnetic injector, which is controlled by advanced software․

Vehicle control unit (VCU): modern vehicles have up to 100 autonomous control units.  The new VCU control unit developed by Bosch can significantly reduce the number of such devices. Thanks to this, valuable space for installing other systems is freed, mass is reduced and communication between different systems is simplified. the VCU fully coordinates the engine and the operation of drive components such as an inverter or transmission, monitors the battery charge.
